"Acclaimed writer Molly Smith Metzler ('Shameless', 'Orange is the New Black', and 'Maid') brings us a new comedy about the challenges of parenthood. This heart-warming comedy finds divergent and new young mothers who strike up a friendship during precious nap time. The comedy takes a sharp and honest look at the power of friendship, the paradox of working motherhood, and the effects that economic and social class have on parenthood in the United States."

SOUND COLLAGE
Cry It Out was a fun and new experience for me! The show takes place in a backyard and called for a lot of specific atmospheric sounds. We used actual baby monitors with a live video and mic feed to get the baby cries to stage. For actual baby sounds, a baby doll featured a small bluetooth speaker and well placed baby cry cues (and devamps) to make the wails seem natural and real. Working closely with the director, I composed music that was percussive and rhythmic that went from bright and fun to contemplative and thoughtful. The idea was to represent the ever present theme of babies and motherhood by using instruments that felt soft and expressive such as arped piano, toy guitar, and a simple bass guitar. The hope was to create music that felt reminiscent of a lullaby, while also being thoughtful to showcase music that the young parents could possibly be found listening to. Check out the music below as you scroll!
