“Kinky Boots’ heartwarming story is based on the 2005 British film and follows protagonist Charlie Price, London-raised Northerner at a crossroads – he must either take up the reigns at his late father’s ailing shoe factory or leave for London and pursue a career in real estate, which would mean the loss of many local jobs. Forging an unlikely alliance with a drag queen named Lola, Price decides to take an unorthodox approach and create women’s boots for men.“

As the associate sound designer and mixer, I drafted the paper work and worked closely with sound designer Joe Payne to help his and the director's vision come to life! The show featured 28 wireless mics (the biggest musical done at the Clarence Brown Theatre and biggest I've ever mixed). The mix was fast and very specific which required lots of concern for dynamics and use of special effects such as reverb and echo. It was an extremely fun (but hard!) show and I learned a ton!
Below is music from the show. When Charlie Price & friends finally make it to Milan, we needed music that felt ready for fashion week. I created a house beat (that Joe Payne added a low pass filter to) to create the illusion of a runway's thumping backstage.
